History and archaeology Just as I can't stay away from works on how people speak (see the "popular linguistics" page in this series), I can't resist reading about how they live, or used to. So I have a small, tight collection of history and archaeology books (as well as biographies, which fit here better than anyplace else). My response to the books listed below is that of a "general" reader, that is, a person who doesn't know much about anything in particular but keeps plugging. Some of these are really worth a trip to the bookstore.
