Plays I've seen Time was, Athens theatergoers could take in a dozen or so plays a season. The university's drama department put up three, Athens Creative Theater three or four, Town & Gown four or five, and the high schools one or two each. This has all changed. Today the area (say six or seven counties) has more than a dozen producing organizations bringing a new show up every week or so. Makes your head spin. And Atlanta, too, has become one of the country's second-rank theater towns, with the Alliance, the Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare Tavern, Actor's Express, Theatrical Outfit, New Jomandi and about a hundred smaller companies all beavering away to earn your ticket dollar.
