Report of the Motto Committee OK, the committee has spent a lot of time on this and we hope you will make good use of it. Unveiling! Our motto!
Now here the committee deadlocked for a long time. Half the members felt that if you were supposed to know what it meant, it would have been written in English. The others argued that (a) only about three of every thousand amateurs can do perfect active tenses in Latin, (b) two of those think "parum" has something to do with childbirth, and (c) the motto was written in English to begin with. The chair ruled in the end that it would be all right to provide an unofficial translation. The Amateur Theater Division motto "Si inaptum est parum malleo fortiter tutudisti," translated (back) into English, reads: "If it doesn't fit, you didn't hit it hard enough." Thank you for your cooperation. |
