Our audition process is simple, but you will benefit by knowing a couple of details.

It is imperative that you bring your appointment book or calendar on audition night. We need to know your conflicts (exams, work, weddings, whatever) because they will form the basis for the production calendar. Please come prepared to write down your conflicts.

When I say "For best advantage, arrive by 7:00," I don't mean that you get extra points for punctuality. The program that commences at 7:00 is conceived to help you show your abilities as best you can. Late is better than not coming at all, but on time is better yet.

We will begin with a round of "Good Game" and then go on to cold readings from the script, followed by little two-scenes. No monologues, no glossies. We will consider you for the part you especially seek, but we may not have you read lines from that part.

Auditions will not take all night. We can learn a lot about you (voice quality and diction, projection, movement, stature, coloring and much more) in just a few lines of dialog.

If you have received a casual invitation to try out for the show, that's all it is, a casual invitation. Town & Gown's Mainstage productions are cast by open auditions, period. If someone else reads better or has qualities we consider more suitable, they will get a part even if a member of the staff recruited you. Sorry, blunt trumps delicate in this instance.

I have prepared a short account of each role in the play. The descriptions may help you focus your audition plans.

Finally, you'll see here a page of PSAs (People Sometimes Ask) about Town & Gown auditions. You can address other questions to me (be sure to include the name ARCADIA in the subject line).
