Bedroom Farce images
Casts in community theater, ours anyway, respond in one of two ways to the news that they have to build the set (and often the costumes):
I must try to nudge the Farce cast from (1) to (2) now. We had a fair crew on Saturday but very, very thin on Sunday, just one cast member plus me and Andy F. As a result, we got roughly half as far along as I had planned. It took till I was forty to realize that if I don't like carrots I don't have to eat them; somewhat later came the realization that if I don't want to do all-nighters the week before opening, I don't have to. Somebody may, but not me. Above you can see the big level for Jan and Nick's room. Malcolm and Kate's place, foreground on your right, has part of a wall standing; Delia and Ernest's, on the other side, has none (and that window is going to take hours to get up, too). In the extreme background stands an unfinished wall; it will shift to your right and get a solid face except for the International/institutional style ribbon window. It will be a treat to see how lighting designer Steve makes the sun rise through this window and set behind Ernest's way over at your left. Next weekend we really, really need to get all the walls erected, shim the platform units to make an even floor for Nick and Jan, hang dutchman, stand up masking walls behind all six openings, get all the bracing in place, and carry out a long list of smaller jobs. Steve the director thinks some carpenter buds of his can donate their time to construct furniture as well; 'scuse me, I have to go design those pieces.
