Bedroom Farce images
Near the top of the photo, above Patty's head, is the defining feature of Nick and Jan's room: an International Style ribbon window. No, of course it isn't real International Style, but a bastardized form. After designing this room I saw a news report on some prison break or outbreak, and it showed exterior windows just like this: a small triumph. Jan and Nick live up on that big level. The space in the right foreground belongs to Malcolm and Kate; that in the left foreground, with all the doors and windows, to Delia and Ernest. Plenty of heavy lifting in this set.
I'm thinking, over the holiday, whether we shouldn't begin the new year with a painting call. All the spaces except Malcolm's need a white or light basecoat. (We've invented a new interior design term: The room on your right has been Mal-treated. He's a less than perfectly assured do-it-yourselfer, and designer Julie thinks the space should reveal multiple paint colors, tattered wallpaper treatments and a damaged floor. Well, to be fair to Mal, Kate and he just recently moved into the place.)
