Hope chose Neil Simon for her first show as director. She had done just about every other job at Town & Gown, including stage manager (for me on The Play's the Thing among others) and assistant director (for Dina on Henry Vee among others), and there's an actual directorial taint in her heritage, so you'd think she would be aware of the perils, but she went ahead with the project.
