The Ladies of the Camellias images
We started with Dina's concept: On the afternoon before the rather fraught performance, the set for The Lady of the Camellias is almost ready. She agreed to add an area downstage where work is still going on—not part of the "set" set but the place where most of our action takes place. The preliminary plan above shows, in outline, the Lady set with some of the features sketched in. The work space occupies the rest of the stage. We've pooched out the downstage right wall to accommodate a desk, and the window in the middle of the upstage wall stands in a recessed bay as well. The little A1 and A18 circles represent the audience members with the worst sightlines. Allen and Dina pulled nearly every platform Town & Gown owns and laid out the upstage set, then went to the scenery loft and retrieved some cubes and furniture. The next page in this series will show our two days' work with some of the furniture and assorted clutter.
