Allen and Speedy rashly said they would do "a project" for director Liz, and it so fell out that they got Schroeder's piano to build. Allen designed the piece after deep study of the "Peanuts" strip, and the two of them scrounged enough plywood and scrap lumber to make a beautiful piece. Provided Lucy doesn't decide to lounge on top of it. Can't seduce Schroeder if you break his piano first. But it should sound fine, thanks to keyboard artist Jonathan.
Allen makes a practice of asking people to give him a picture of what he's supposed to build. Dina did, for example, when he got put in charge of the chaise longue for The Ladies of the Camellias. It was easier for him this time because no American newspaper publisher has had the stones to mention Charles Schulz's demise to the public; they continue running strips from as far back as the 1970s. Some readers think the feature is just as fresh now as it was when Schulz was drawing it, which is about right. Grump, grump.
At left is Snoopy's house. The masking has not yet been installed behind it, so you're seeing the electrical system and some stored units. Kelli told me Snoopy has to dance on the top, so we made it flat and sturdy. I'm not sure there is much more to say about the doghouse.
The image below is a general view of Kelli's set, pretty near ready for opening. My goodness, what a lot of ladders we have. I imagine she will add tufts of grass to the floor, put some touches on the fence, and straighten up the black draperies. The band will set up behind the fence on your left. Charlie Brown opens April 22 for a two-weekend run; call (706) 208-8696 for reservations.
