The Devil's Disciple images
Act 1, Scene 1. Dick explains to Essie, before a scandalized audience, why he calls himself the Devil's Disciple. He resolves that she is to have a good home in the house that used to belong to his mother. Mrs. D departs with a "dying curse" on Dick. (She makes good on it too, passing over within a day or two.)
