Lettice & Lovage images
The script suggests that the big staircase is important. We made it so in Act 1 (when Lettice gives her embellished tours of Fustian House) but found no way to keep it in the action of Acts 2 and 3. Jay overbuilt this thing; it could have gone into anyone's house and stood up under hurricane winds, lightning strikes and 200 years of daily use. Heavy. Andy suggested using forced perspective to make it look even bigger, since we would not have visible traffic on the stairs. This photo records his experiment. The next one shows the stairs in a more finished condition.
