Les Liaisons Dangereuses
by Christopher Hampton, adapted from the novel by Choderlos de Laclos
Town & Gown Players, 2003-4 Mainstage season

An "adult" script. (When I was much younger that would have meant it's old enough to vote, but let that pass. Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis, as we used to say back home.) Hampton gets credit for the screenplay of Dangerous Liaisons, the John Malkovich picture, which is rather similar to the script.

Canny Derek is directing a brilliant cast. The set design is pretty simple: three levels, two arches, some curtains. It can't be very bulky because the ladies will be wearing dresses that Marie (Mme Merteuil) describes as "five feet wide," while Allen (Valmont) has an enormous floppy hat in his future. You can view some photos of the set under construction.

The show goes up in late May for a two-weekend run. It should be worth seeing.
