Les Liaisons Dangereuses images
It's been refreshing to work on Derek's show without being in charge of the project. Grunt carpentry is fun. The cast has been heavily involved in putting up the set. It doesn't matter that the design is quite simple; it will still take us till the last possible minute to build it. (When I was a kid everybody knew Parkinson's Law, named for the economic theorist C. Northcote Parkinson, but these days I'm the only one left who remembers it: Work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion. This is why you don't like being on committees.)
In the photo at right, Allen (green shirt) and Derek (headless) watch in gobsmacked wonder as Marie works one of her miracles on a level. This one somehow involves stamp-pad ink.
Sometimes art just happens. The image at left is an atmospheric view of Will hanging draperies as Carrie steadies the ladder for him. When I made this she was halfway through painting the bits of molding you can see on the next page. In the background is one of the blue arches that will help define the acting space.
