Progress up to April 15

We began work on the eighth of April. Two items had to come first, an extension to the stage apron and a relocation of the midstage curtain track. Both of these have to do with Act 1 of Coward's comedy, which will be played in the first 10 feet of the stage in front of a white curtain.

I've helped move this curtain track before. It was a nasty job and seemed likely to spell the end of some unlucky crew member. The track is one piece, 30-odd feet long, made of heavy-gauge steel, and it's supported by a series of hooks spread over the full length. In dread of the operation, I planned a method for doing it safely with only one or two ladders, and our crew managed the job with finesse.

Unfortunately, the photo doesn't show the curtain track, so never mind about that. But you can see one of the curtains.

The extension (raw plywood in foreground) has beveled ends that point right back to the corners of the proscenium. When we build the balustrade on the edge, it will only have to have three sections.

To make a 6-1/4 inch platform unit into a 12-1/2 inch level, you attach legs 6-1/4 inches long. I think it was Stacie who named them "Corgi legs." We made some 40-45 of them, assembled a dozen or so units and put up the level. Then (I'm pleased about this) we took the walls that used to be part of The Devil's Disciple and turned them into Amanda's apartment in Paris. When I made this photo, after April 15, we had two of the three standing, plus the doors to Amanda's and Elyot's rooms (freestanding doors on stage level).
