Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
It was a quiet weekend down at the playhouse. Both crews did good work, not all of which is visible. A bigger group could have made more progress, but that's empty talk.
Saturday's accomplishment was an inventory of all the soft goods (draperies) in theater stock. We have 41 pieces of soft goods! I don't think anyone knew that, and until Saturday I couldn't be sure we had just the right pieces for the show. We do.
At left you see the ultra-fine main level with the onstage step. Dan, Karen, Carrie and director Dina put this together in just about no time, and it doesn't squeak. There is an offstage step that you can't see in this photo. Hamlet and Ophelia will enter via the level, and later in the show it will become the quarterdeck of the ship carrying Rosencrantz and Guildenstern toward England.
The mushroom-shaped unit shown at right will become the revolve we set in the Stage Left flat. We'll carve the top to a loose tree shape and paint stuff on the two faces. We did not get the pivot and the revolve mechanism built. Check back in a week to see this unit prepared for setting and operating.
