The Royal Family images

The action takes place in the Manhattan apartment of the Cavendishes, America's Royal Family of the Theater: Fanny, her daughter Julie and son Tony, Julie's daughter Gwen. It's a simple set in having almost no moving parts (a relief for those who helped put up Something's Afoot a few months ago), but it's packed full of theater stuff: posters, prop furniture, musical instruments and so forth.

Ground plan Set model
The ground plan drawing has the entrances and other features identified. It's informative if you are used to reading plans. Here is an image of the model I built, with Scaleboy® and Scalemaid® doing their usual service. Hmm, this got squashed, didn't it....

Set model Blocking rehearsal
Another model photo shows a sightline experiment. Of course rehearsals were under way before we stood up any sticks.

April 20 set photo April 20 stairway image
Just one weekend's work produced this astonishing result. It wouldn't make any sense to erect the levels without steps to ascend, would it? This is the highly unfinished form of the grand stairway.

April 28 rehearsal photo May 4 set view
Rehearsals can be so distracting when you are trying to focus on set construction.... Here's a view of the set on May 4.

That fake Down Right wall seems to be working well. The grand stairway is done too.

Stencil pattern May 11 view through broken wall
The weekend of May 10-11 was all about stencils. This is the motif we applied. (No enlargement of the image) The "worst" view from seat A18 is actually not so bad.

Skilled artists applied that stencil pattern some hundreds of times. We finished painting on May 18....
