Rumors images
At left you can see part of the crew on Sunday, July 10: from left, John, Geneviève, Ian and Speedy, with Emily and Hannah nearly invisible behind the railing. Somewhere in there I think Audrey is hiding. Hope, Michael, Chris and a couple of others are elsewhere. About every other cast at Town & Gown includes some parents, and most of them have one or more children. I used to think it was better to have the kids at home and the parents at the theater for set calls. But that just isn't the way it works. It often happens that I can have either parent and child or no one at all, so it turns out to be worth the effort to incorporate kids into the job. (For a long time I've advertised that I can teach anybody to do something that really counts. A claim that gets put to the test every week on Rumors.) Cat has brought Sarah and Matt (pictured in one of last week's pages), Audrey sometimes accompanies Geneviève, Kris has brought her little girl Cameron, and this weekend Speedy showed up with a raft of nieces and a nephew.
On the next page you'll see a green handrail on the level and stairs. Hannah did some of the measuring for it, and as a well-brought-up Scot she is used to measuring in centimeters or centimetres, so just this once we have included a metric railing in our set. We got a world of work out of these kids: painting, small carpentry, and of course applying the meter stick to the handrail. (I'm coding this page while watching, from one eye, the first Harry Potter movie on television. The Scots contingent probably is just discovering the condescending change in the title of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Sorry, one of my bugbears. American readers are about as smart as Brits, but we now have it thoroughly clear that American publishers are bone stupid. I'll stop now.)
