The Taming of the Shrew images

This director has a taste for "fluid" action: no interruptions for scene changes or even for entrances and exits. The show will have a cast of just over a dozen, so it occurred to me to revive an idea we'd talked about years ago and place the entire cast onstage from curtain to curtain. The drawing below shows how we plan to do it.

Ground plan of the set

"Cube" is just an actor's block serving as a rostrum, focus, obstacle—probably all of these in turn. The "Sun/Moon" is a standard that pivots to reveal one of two faces. Some good business there. Colors will be rose and gold. The deck is painted in alternating diamonds, and likewise the cube. Utterly simple. The biggest part of the project will no doubt be hanging all those draperies.

We don't even get into the house till August 7, so this page may go a while between updates.
