View of the set on October 22

It isn't quite right to say this view represents two weekends' progress. Director Steven called an extraordinary set painting session on Tuesday. Andy built his French windows, currently standing as a tall empty gray frame about Center Stage; the shutters are waiting to be hung in there. Allison, Amber, Joe, Steven and I put in some hours getting everything painted but some last details. We still don't have colors selected for those details, but that will come Saturday.

Funny thing, or rather thing we are choosing to call funny. The musical revue that went up at the end of summer decorated their basic-black set by strewing glitter around while the paint was still tacky. We all thought, no problem, we'll just sweep up the loose flakes and paint over the rest. But no, it doesn't work like that with your modern hi-tech glitter. Paint won't stick to the stuff! So far we've put down two coats everywhere and up to four in spots, and a few persistent gleams still show through. This would be a very grave matter if we were doing a lot of heavy drama on the stage, but 2004-5 is a season made up entirely of comedies, so cut us a little slack, all right? We'll get it covered before the real tearjerker gets in.
