View of the set after the first weekend of work

This photo won't tell you much until you see the designer's plan and rendering, but it will tell you that we had quite a strenuous first weekend of construction work.

In the foreground is a complicated ramp; imagine the end of a big rectangular tunnel emerging from the earth at a steep angle. Farther away is a tallish ramp with Tom, the designer, peering down from the top. The big unit that's not built yet will go in the gap farthest away to your left (stage right). It will be some 3 feet higher than the ramp you see and will have a cave passing through it for Caliban to live in.

At the head of the downstage ramp are Katie (standing) and stage manager Carina; way over at your right is Karen, the prop mistress. Most of the crew had gone home by the time I made this picture.

The upstage ramp is a beast. We built it upside down, inverted each section, and bolted all together. Took a crew of 4-6 all afternoon. There's supposed to be a little culvert going through it, some shimming and bracing, and a plywood face, and that one will be done.

Do take a look at the next page for more on the major pieces.
