The Table rehabilitated

In discussing The Table I find myself saying "actual" a lot. In the photo above you can see actual wood grain and the actual spot where one of the tin medallions used to be. The paint was so thick over the cheap metal that both medallions just peeled off with it. This view also shows actual flutes in the capital of the leg; the paint had concealed these.

What's next for The Table? Well, at the moment it is in rehearsal for The Royal Family, in which it will (if the Fates are kind) support everything from breakfast to cocktails. One day another brave soul will get after it with a scraper and disagglomerate some of the paint on the legs. Somebody may even repair the joints. But every show that moves into the playhouse gets the same grim message: You may paint The Table, attach draperies and panels to it, use it onstage or off, but it was here a long time before you came, and it had better be here still when your show heads out. Got that?
