Town & Gown's Table

The ancients tell us that The Table was part of Town & Gown before history began, but probably it came in the 1960s. Simple little cheap table, you know the kind of thing, four legs and a top. Unassuming things often do become part of everyone's consciousness, though—think of a puppy, or your most recent hangnail—and The Table soon began appearing in dozens of shows. It has no style, and so it's perfect for community theater because it fails to clash with all periods. By the late 1980s The Table (we pronounce the capital letters) had scored more credits than any member of the company, and appeared in more colors than all but a couple. President John V. gave it a presidential award.

Detail of The TableThe story acquired a new twist in the Year 1 when I decided to put The Table onstage again. Click on the image at right to view the revelation.
