Town & Gown's Table

The Table rehabilitated

Getting ready for The Play's the Thing, I decided the rather busy set needed The Table, but when we went to give it a new color it just looked like a mess. Too many coats of ill-chosen paint, to say nothing of staples, nails and other hardware, and also the wonky old joints. So Dina and I began removing some of the recent history and reached the point you can see in the photo. We hacked, yanked, peeled and swore until the top and the skirt were fairly clear.

Now the reason I'm telling you this is that many people had come to believe The Table was made entirely of paint. We found, on the contrary, that much of it originally consisted of actual wood, with little tin medallions.
